The Donatus Church is one of the oldest churches in the northern Netherlands. The side walls of the nave still date from the 11th century. Inside, special early medieval wall paintings are still intact. Under the 17th-century pulpit is a hatch to the church's basement, which served as a hiding place for people in hiding in WWII. In 1957, the church was badly damaged by a fire. Fortunately, many of the old elements of the church have survived.
